Dear Families,

Welcome to third grade!  It should be an exciting year. Your child will be learning many new things this year.  Many of you may not know me; so let me take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I live in Homer, and have a daughter who just started high school (ughh!). I love animals and have many pets. I enjoy hiking and walking my dog. Last year I was the science teacher for Science Lab, I also taught Earth Science afternoons at the high school. I have also worked as a registered nurse for several years.

I am very excited about the opportunity to teach your child this year. So you may have a full appreciation of what we will accomplish in the classroom this year, I would like you to know my philosophy of teaching.

-I believe All children deserve respect and should not be humiliated, hurt, or embarasses intentionally.
-I believe ALL children deserve respect and should not be humiliated, hurt, or embarrassed intentionally.
-I believe a child’s self-esteem should be nurtured tenderly.
-I believe it is my job teach until a child learns, rather than punish until learning takes place.
-I believe ALL children should enjoy the learning process; I want to help them to develop their own motivation for learning. I hope to do    my best to encourage your child to succeed in their attempts to learn.
-I believe modeling is the most powerful way to affect a child’s learning. Please model the love of learning at home by reading to and in
  front of your child.

To help insure a successful school experience, we as a class, developed the following classroom rules. It was not easy; we came up with many "Do not" rules and changed them into a few "Do" rules. We have a class chart with color-coded cards that change according to how well each child follows the rules (ask your child to explain). The rules are as follows:

  1. Treat each other with kindness and respect in your words and actions.
  2. Listen to the person speaking without interrupting.
  3. Take care of your classroom.
  4. Always do your work the best you can.
  5. Have fun and learn.
I am looking forward to working with you as a partner in your child's education. I firmly believe that a good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort among parent, child, and teacher. If any questions/concerns arise during the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you and value your input. Please write a note, call me at school or home (607-749-8236 before 8 p.m.), or email me. Again, I look forward to spending this year with you and your child.

                                                                                                                                         Respectfully,
                                                                                                                                         Ms. Kristen Kneer
