I absolutely LOVE collecting rocks and fossils. I frequently travel
around the area hoping to find the next fascinating item to add to my
collection. This area offers so much to those that are interested in
discovering more about Earth's history and how it has affected the
landscape. If take a walk around my house more than likely I will find
a rock formed in the Devonian Period about 400 million years ago. If I
take a short drive of about 20-30 miles I can find rocks formed in the
Silurian Period over 400 million years ago. If I continue my travels to
the Eastern Adirondacks I might even find rock that was formed over a
billion years ago! All I need to do is look out my window and I see the
valleys created as glaciers advanced during the last period of
glaciation about 10,000 years ago. I could go on, but I'm sure you get
my point. The following links are my little way of encouraging you to
discover just how magnificant an area New York State is for exploring
and learning more about Earth's geologic history.
