While in third grade, students learn many
new concepts in math. I strongly believe in the benefits of cooperative
learning and provide many opportunities for students to learn and "practice"
new skills and concepts. A strong emphasis is placed on reading, understanding, and
writing word problems that involve the topics below and are meaningful as they relate to the
students' lives. We
work on developing these skills throughout the year. It's not enough anymore
to simply know how to get the answer, students are also expected to be able
to EXPLAIN how they've figured out the answer.
